Will Larry Craig Crash the GOP Fundraiser He Was Uninvited To?

Senate Republican political operatives are biting their nails, worried that Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) is going to crash the National Republican Senatorial Committee's upcoming fundraising retreat in Sea Island, Ga.

Sources tell the Sleuth that Craig RSVP'd "yes" to the event even though Sen. John Ensign (Nev.), chairman of the NRSC, has served as the public pit bull for GOP leaders attacking Craig for his misadventures with the law in Minnesota. NRSC staff had to telephone Craig's staff and explain that it would be best if Craig weren't at the Nov. 9-11 event, which will draw the NRSC's biggest PAC donors, according to sources.

Craig, who has been burning up his own campaign cash to pay for his legal bills relating to his airport men's room escapade, is definitely not on the attendee list, an NRSC official tells us. But that doesn't mean he won't show up where he's not wanted - he's still in the Senate after all, despite promises to resign.

A group of Democratic and Republican members of Congress have personally apologized to Maher Arar. He is the Canadian citizen who was seized by U.S. officials in 2002 at JFK Airport in New York and secretly flown to Syria as part of the Bush administration’s extraordinary rendition program. In Syria, Arar was held for almost a year in a grave-like cell and repeatedly tortured. He was released without ever being charged with a crime.

"On October 8th at 3:00 in the morning, I was awakened and told that they had decided to remove me to Syria. By then, it was becoming more and more clear to me that I was being sent to Syria for the purpose of being tortured. There, I was put in a dark underground cell that was more like a grave. It was three feet wide, six feet deep and seven feet high. Life in that cell was hell. I spent ten months and ten days in that grave.

During the early days of my detention, I was interrogated and physically tortured. I was beaten with an electrical cable and threatened with a metal chair, the tire and electric shocks. I was forced to falsely confess that I had been to Afghanistan. When I was not being beaten, I was put in a waiting room so that I could hear the screams of other prisoners. The cries of the women still haunt me the most.

After 374 days of torture and wrongful detention, I was finally released to Canadian embassy officials on October 5, 2003."

Entry fee: TEN US DOLLARS   We divide this up between the top Mens/Womens finishers and then try to recoup our production costs. These events aren't super cheap but we try to keep em affordable. Why? Because we like you.

21+   Due to the fact that you are required to stop at a few taverns we ask that you please bring an ID. A waiver is signed at the race start so we will check your ID there. For the young guns we will be providing an alternate manifest that allows you to race but not go into the bars. The pain is all ages.

Safety   It's gettin dark early so we are encouraging you to outfit your ride with lights. If you're dressed up like Gargamel (Abe) cars can't see you rippin thru the intersection. Or maybe you're going as Rainbow Bright (Chris) so this doesn't apply, but either way, we want you back in one piece.

Additional Items  You will have to pick up various items along the course to carry to the Finish Line, so a messenger bag or backpack or large purse (Travis) is recommended.

That said, we're looking forward to the race and hope you are too.

ZOMBIE WALK THIS SATURDAY

A zombie walk (also known as a zombie mob, zombie march or zombie lurch) is an organized public gathering of two or more people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space.

The second-annual Zombie Walk is taking over downtown Boise on Saturday, October 20th. The walking dead will creep and crawl from the Modern Hotel & Bar to BoDo, and scare children all the way to Warm Springs Ave.

This year’s PR coordinator and zombie homemaker, Leighann Dufurrena, hopes to make Zombie Walk a hit this year. Her involvement is inspired by noticing that “more and more of our culture [is] stuck in zombie-esque state, through mass marketing/media consumerism, government propaganda and rhetoric, political impotence, social class acceptance…the chain needs to be broken.” -more from theboisebeat
