a new years mix

my tradition is to create a new years mix to share with all my friends.  i've been collecting music like crazy and haven't been able to put the thing together yet . . . so in the interim, i'd like to share a few songs that may or may not appear on the "official" New Year 2008 Mix but that i really love and would like you to hear.

my mother sent me the text of this toast, and i'd like to dedicate it to you, my dear readers.

At the sound of the tolling midnight bell a brand new year will begin.
Let's raise our hopes in a confident toast, to the promise it ushers in.

May your battles be few; your pleasures many, your wishes and dreams fulfilled.

"Since the Halloween season is upon us and all that, I wanted to share this bit of Halloween trivia with you. Zombies hate KFC. Seriously, they hate it. In fact, they hate it so much that they held a protest at a KFC in Moscow, ID, with signs reading “I’d Rather Be Dead Than Eat at KFC”.

Unfortunately for this group of zombies, their photographer only got shots of their signs reading “Aurgh Graun Uargh”. But you get the idea. If you’d like to do your own zombie-themed KFC demo, click here."

H3LLRACER: THIS SATURDAY

All the race info you ever wanted to know but were too drunk to ask:

Entry fee: TEN US DOLLARS   We divide this up between the top Mens/Womens finishers and then try to recoup our production costs. These events aren't super cheap but we try to keep em affordable. Why? Because we like you.

21+   Due to the fact that you are required to stop at a few taverns we ask that you please bring an ID. A waiver is signed at the race start so we will check your ID there. For the young guns we will be providing an alternate manifest that allows you to race but not go into the bars. The pain is all ages.

Safety   It's gettin dark early so we are encouraging you to outfit your ride with lights. If you're dressed up like Gargamel (Abe) cars can't see you rippin thru the intersection. Or maybe you're going as Rainbow Bright (Chris) so this doesn't apply, but either way, we want you back in one piece.

Additional Items  You will have to pick up various items along the course to carry to the Finish Line, so a messenger bag or backpack or large purse (Travis) is recommended.

That said, we're looking forward to the race and hope you are too.

Humanclock.com shows a photograph of the current time, with the photo changing every minute of the day (all 1,440 occuring minutes on Earth!) Thus you end up with a rotating picture clock sorta deal.

How the time is actually displayed is a whole different matter.  A lot of photos have the time written on a crummy cardboard sign, while other photos might have the current time in a more edible format, such as olives.  There are photos below sea level and ones over two miles above sea level.  There are even clock pictures with people who played at Woodstock.

"For three weeks this fall, midtown Manhattan will be the stage for Musical, a series of spontaneous actions orchestrated by artist and filmmaker Dara Friedman. From dawn to dusk, and occasionally even in the middle of the night, office workers, mothers, schoolchildren, taxi drivers, doormen, tourists, divas, and grandparents will break into song, creating unexpected musical events and serendipitous urban moments for all who encounter them. Throughout the course of the project, nearly one hundred individual actions will take place throughout the day and night, weekdays only, in the blocks between Grand Central Station and Central Park South, and between Broadway and Park Avenue.

Musical will take place from September 17 to October 5 throughout midtown Manhattan, in locations between Grand Central Station and Central Park South, and Broadway and Park Avenue.
