Speaking of Libertarian Idaho values, back in 1978, Butch Otter said this when interviewed by Reason Magazine:
“if a person, of his own free will, wants to use marijuana, I question whether the government has any propriety in telling him he can’t.” By limiting freedom, he said, “the government, in effect, is taking away the only real gift the Lord gave us.”
IPTV has just released a special after-debate discussion between Betty Richardson and Rod Beck. Along with Marsha Franklin, they discuss the performances of the two CD1 Candidates. In case you haven't heard, Minnick beat Sali with 50.6 percent of the vote.
Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
i'm not one to "talk" much on the blog. i generally let the things i post speak for themselves. however, i'd like to offer a few words about the new Larry LaRocco youtube video.
i understand the impulse to make something that could become "viral", and i too like the JibJab-style chatty mouth photo animation with a funny voice. but do i think it makes for a good political ad? absolutely not.
in the spirit of offering constructive criticism to help frame progressive, liberal or democratic candidates in the best light, i offer the following things to consider:
1. that photo with larry in scrubs and rubber gloves makes me feel like he's about to give my annual gyno exam. eeeewwwwwww!
2. no one but "insiders" cares that risch spent 12Gs on a private jet. using that as the opening argument makes candidate LaRocco look petty and "inside the belt way", out of touch with "idahoans" - no matter what the words say.
3. the jibjab-style should be used for the WHOLE ad or none at all. and the jokes have to actually be FUNNY.
4. for those of us that care about fuel economy, the fact that they drive around idaho in their Ford Explorer doesn't really warm my heart. a Prius, a Civic Hybrid, sure. that's something to brag about. don't smack down a guy for flying a corporate jet and then turn around and brag on your 12 miles to the gallon SUV.
If LaRocco is going to compete, he needs new ad people, and fast.
